Artists Julie Gough and Karla Dickens have exhibited widely across Australia and internationally.
In TRUE LIES (and alibies) they respond to 250th Anniversary of landing of Captain Cook in their unique way; showing video, sculpture and installation that challenges the viewer to rethink established stories around the founding of Australia.
Viewing this inherited history from an Indigenous point of view, the artists will tease out new perspectives for the audience to consider.
As a new awareness emerges across the nation that history has more than one side, the future possibility of inclusion of a First Nation’s voice and realreconciliation looks possible and impossible at the same time. This exhibition will look creatively at some of the issues that may stand in the way of this being accepted at this point in time.
Presented as part of Wyndham City’s NAIDOC program.
