Human Status – 11 Portraits by Brian Martin
On May, 27, 1967 an extremely significant moment happened in Australian history, the 1967 Referendum. For Australian Aborigines, it represented the end of endorsed discrimination and the promise of equal citizenship. During this process many Australians voted strongly to change the Australian Constitution which prevented the Federal Government from making laws for Aborigines, and excluded them from being counted in the census.
Brian Martin’s series of life sized portraits depict eleven people who were born before the 1967 referendum.
